Cantor’s robust education

December 20, 2016
Today, Gary Cantor proudly works on his fourth year as a PhD candidate in the Genetics and Molecular Biology department of UNC Chapel Hill in Durham, N.C. But prior to the feat, Cantor earned significant education and knowledge. His undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Florida where he studied biology. During this time, he relocated to San Francisco for four months to work at Gerentech on a treatment for Triple Negative Breast Cancer. He then continued his studies at UNC within its Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program, where he remained for one year before moving into genetics.

Gary Cantor’s Medical Career

June 24, 2016
It all started when Gary Cantor was growing up Coral Springs, Florida. He always knew he wanted a career in medicine, because he watched a lot of medical reality shows on TV and grew to admire those who saved people's lives. His dream was to give hope to the hopeless.

At first, he wanted to be a surgeon. However, at the tender age of 13, YouTube video of Dr. Aubrey de Grey, a biomedical gerontologist, changed that for him. Dr. de Grey suggested that medical research had the potential to allow people to live as much as 1,000 years. That, along with correspondence with Dr. de Grey, convinced him that the research lab was where he wanted to be.

These days, Gary sees the human body as an advanced computer and believes that anyone with knowledge of its instruction manual, or genome, can quite possibly get that computer to run forever. Keep in mind, he is still only 26 and he’s working on his Ph.D; the future looks bright for many years for medical researcher Gary Cantor.
